We think we know what we’re talking about: Blackwell vs Eubank Jr

Here we are with our forth “We think we know” and our second to feature a certain Chris Eubank Jr. This is an intriguing fight, and one that could go either way. As always the team at Boxing Britain will give their predictions, and so will some of our boxing friends, who DO know what they are talking about!

I’m hoping that this will be a throwback to the kind of fights we saw in the 90s between Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank Snr and Steve Collins: I’m hoping for a toe to toe war! Kudos to Eubank Jr for taking this fight, he was mandatory for the WBA Regular world title and didn’t need to fight for the British title but I like his style saying that he wants to win it. This will be Eubank Jr’s first chance to step out from his fathers shadow and do something that Daddy didn’t do. This fight is a lot closer than many think and either will do well to beat the other… but I’m going to go with a Eubank win, with a late stoppage – Chris Waddams (@chriswadds), Boxing Britain writer
I believe Eubank and Blackwell to be a truly intriguing fight. Eubank the classy boxer puncher and Blackwell a gritty worker who works well up close. If Eubank finds his range early I feel he can outbox Blackwell but if the Trowbridge boxer can get up close and use his strength he could cause problems. I’m going to say that Eubank will stick to a plan and outbox his game opponent, stopping him late on. However I wouldn’t be surprised if Blackwell is there to hear the final bell – Tommy Lloyd  Jnr (@tommylloydjnr), Boxing Britain writer
Chris Eubank Jr will show us what he is really capable of in this fight. Blackwell is by no means an easy fight and I expect him to bring out the best of Eubank. I think it will catch fire from the second round and Eubank will just edge any trading exchanges. I’m going round 6 TKO for Eubank – Gary Fortune (@boxing_britain), Boxing Britain writer
I like the Blackwell vs Eubank Jnr fight, it’s a good test for Jnr at this stage of his career. If he boxes Blackwell he wins a wide points decision, but he won’t. He will go into the trenches with Blackwell and will outlast him. I predict an entertaining fight with a Eubank Jnr stoppage somewhere around round 8-9 – Richard Hammel (@chadderscha), Boxing Britain writer
I think we’ll see the best of Jr. I see he’s been working hard on those body shots. I’m expecting a complete domination by Jr, can’t see ti going into the second half of the fight – The Boxing Page
So that’s what we think, now to find out how some people who really know what they’re talking about think the fight will go:
This is a cracking fight; a 60/40 for me. But I’m going for the 40 – I think Blackwell might have the tactics and certainly the toughness to pull off what most would see as an upset. I like the way Blackwell goes about his business – nothing against Jr; he can definitely fight and punch! This will be a belting fight! – Ryan Walsh (@walsh7ryan), British Featherweight Champion
Really looking forward to the fight. Would love Blackwell to win but I think Eubank will win with a late stoppage – Lee Markham, (@leebanjomarkham), English Middleweight Title challenger
I think Blackwell can win if he fights the right fight. I can see him winning on points or possibly a late stoppage as Eubank was tiring against me. He’s a lucky boy he burst my eardrum in the second or it would have been a different outcome! – Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (@spike_osullivan), former Eubank foe and World ranked middleweight contender
As much as I like Nick Blackwell I think Eubank is going to win. Blackwell’s mental toughness will make this fight a hard one for Eubank. Eubank will use his awkward style and rare ability to throw shots that are unexpected that will shock Blackwell. Eubank will win but I want Blackwell to win – Ashley John Williams (@ashleyjohnw), Boxing Britain profiled Flyweight boxer and Commonwealth Bronze Medalist.
Eubank will win by TKO in the middle rounds, 5th 6th or 7th – Wadi Camacho (@wadicamacho), Boxing Britain profiled Boxer and reigning Southern Area Cruiserweight Champion
Some of our writers have also given a quick prediction as to how they see the Brook vs Bizier fight going, so I’ve decided to list them here:
Brook vs Bizier will be a one sided fight in which Brook will pick Bizier off at will, inside 5 rounds – The Boxing Page
Brook wins, don’t really care how – Gary Fortune
I don’t give a fuck about Brook vs Bizier, it’s a mandatory defence and is a stop gap before Brook goes to USA for a big fight in the summer – Richard Hammel
Chris Waddams
I've been a boxing fan for as long as I can remember, going back to the fights between Benn/Eubank/Collins and probably even earlier if I think really hard! My favourite boxer growing up was Lennox Lewis, but when he retired it switched to Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe. Away from boxing I'm a season ticket holder at Tottenham Hotspur and I also write a Spurs blog (www.thfc1882.com)
