Tameside’s Lyndon Newman returns to title action on February 20th

Lyndon Newman makes return to the ring for the first time in over two years as he looks to secure the British Challenge Middleweight belt on February 20th at Preston’s Guild Hall. The Tameside native looks to get back to winning ways after a topsy turvy start to his career however now looks to kick on kick on after linking up with MGM Manchester and his new trainer Alan Page. If Newman is successful on February 20th, it will give him the springboard to fast track his way up the British Middleweight rankings and could potentially eye English and British titles towards the back end of 2016.Newman credits a link up with his new trainer Page, whom once shared a ring with Carl Froch as one of the reasons for his new found focus for the fight game, “I have a great team in MGM Manchester, Johnney Roye, Oliver Harrison and my trainer Alan Page. Alan and I have been training in Hyde where I live, I am doing two sessions a day and
loving being back in the gym”.’Light out’ has been out of the ring for over two years however it has been good reason. Newman has a four year old daughter who has deletion disorder, which causes her to suffer epilepsy and and difficulties with her growth and development. Lyndon has been making sure she has the correct care and knowing she has has helped him mature as a person as well as a fighter in his time away from the ring. He does a sponsored walk from Blackpool to Manchester and back to help raise money for charities that help with children’s illnesses.

Lyndon has been sparring with the likes of Martin Murray prior to Martin’s world title tilt, something that brought confidence to the Hyde man, “You don’t just get asked to spar world class fighters like Martin, you have to be a decent fighter yourself to share a ring with him. Sparring Martin gave me a lot of confidence, something that will show in the ring on fight night”.

“I feel I have matured in and out the ring in my time away. That can only make me a better fighter. I am training twice a day every day and it will show in Preston on the 20th February. My confidence is sky
high and my hunger for boxing is well and truly there! Boxing has kept me on the straight and narrow and I want to achieve great things in boxing not just for myself but for my family too”.

‘Lights out’ Lyndon Newman co main events MGM Manchester’s show in Preston on 20th February which also features Preston based South African Michael Ramabeletsa and Barrow’s Liam Conroy all in title action. The bill also features Central Area Light Welterweight Champion Kofi Yates, former IBF World Champion Malcolm Klassen who is also set for a big fight.
