MGM Launch MGM Birmingham under watchful of eye of Matthew and Seamus Macklin

Matthew Macklin along with brother Seamus are delighted to announce the launch of MGM Birmingham, based at the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre in Solihull. Macklin has already established thriving boxing gyms in Marbella, Manchester and Glasgow. Matthew believed that it was only natural that the MGM (Macklin’s Gym Marbella) concept should be brought to his native Birmingham. That concept will become reality in January with the opening of MGM Birmingham at the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre in Solihull.

Macklin who has trained at some of the worlds greatest gyms knows what it takes to run a world class facility. The experience and knowledge that ‘Mack the Knife’ has gained has been implemented in the creation of MGM Birmingham at the world class seven star Tudor Grange Leisure Centre. The gymnasium itself is equipped with a state of the art fitness centre, Olympic standard swimming pool, an athletics track, health suite, cafe and of course a world class boxing gymnasium.

Macklin says he’s excited to establish a gym that he hopes will become a hub for world class boxing talent while also providing local youngsters with an entry point to a sport that can transform their futures,

“For most of my own career I’ve been on the road so that I could get the best training and sparring available. Obviously the Marbella gym is well established now and now there are MGM Gyms in Manchester and Glasgow as well; but having a gym on our own doorstep in Birmingham was always a goal and I’m delighted we will have that now from January.”

“Boxing has taken me around the world and given me so much in life however it’s also a sport that has shown me the value of hard work. You only get out of it what you put in regardless of whether you’re a child picking up the gloves for the first time or a seasoned professional.”

“We want to give every kid who comes through those doors the opportunity to improve their life and future prospects through boxing. That doesn’t necessarily mean they have to become a champion but if they can take some lessons from participating in the sport that they can apply to their own life in terms of discipline and the value of hard work then that will make it all worthwhile.”

Macklin will be partnered in the gym by his younger brother Seamus who has already picked up a reputation as one of the sports best young trainers. The Solihull trainer says he’s excited at the prospect of working with local children and developing their potential. Seamus and Matthew will also be working with a progressing professional stable, that currently includes highly rated undefeated Birmingham native Michael Rooney. The professional stable is in the process of growing already and is set to include some well known names in the not so distant future.

Seamus Macklin spoke ahead of the launch of the exciting new Birmingham based venture,

“As a trainer you can get as much of a buzz from seeing a kid winning their first night as a pro winning a title fight. Hard work pays off and as a trainer it’s great when you see a fighter getting the rewards for the hard work they put in.”

“I have traveled the world with Matthew throughout his career and that’s given me the opportunity to work alongside some of the sports best trainers. My Dad always told me to keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut because you learn more that way and it’s certainly true from seeing how trainers work over the years. You pick up bits and pieces from everyone and take the best of what you’ve experienced and apply it to the boxers you work with. I know for a fact that in Birmingham there is exceptional young talent coming through and sometimes that talent just needs the right break to really shine and hopefully MGM Birmingham can provide them with that.”

The centres manager Simon James is thrilled to be working with the Macklin’s to bring the MGM concept to Birmingham,

“Matthew and Seamus are so enthusiastic about the project. It promises to be a top class facility not just for the Champion boxers who will undoubtedly use it as a training base but also for the local community. Whether that’s children looking to take up the sport for the first time or the average person looking to enjoy all the benefits of boxercise without having to take a punch on the nose I think it’s going to be a very popular facility and we’re delighted to have it as part of the centre.”

The superb Solihull sporting destination also has the facilities to hold top class boxing shows to the capacity of around 4000 spectators. Everything really is under one roof at MGM Birmingham. MGM Promotions which has been putting top quality shows on in Ireland, Scotland, Marbella and in Lancashire will be joined by the Birmingham outfit, who aim to put on five shows in 2016 which will involve top talent based in the Birmingham area.

An announcement on the official opening date of MGM Birmingham will be made shortly. MGM Birmingham will be inclusive in the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre which can be found at Blossomfield Road, Solihull, Birmingham, West Midlands, B91 1NB.
