We’re carrying on with one of our reoccurring features this week by covering the two big world title fights involving Brits! Will Crolla be able to defend his WBA World Lightweight title against the dangerous Ismael Barroso? Or will Barroso do to Crolla what he did to Kevin Mitchell? The other fight we’ll be giving our predictions for is Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs Amir Khan. Can Khan cement his legacy and win the WBC and Ring Magazine World titles or will the fight pan out like many believed it will with a Canelo win? We give you our predictions, as well as the predictions of those who do know what they’re talking about in this week’s “We think we know what we’re talking about”!

Crolla vs Barroso

I’m predicting that Crolla has a really tough fight against Barroso and the ref steps in during the 11th round putting Crolla out of his misery – Gary Fortune (@boxing_britain), Boxing Britain writer

It’s a case again of heart telling me one thing but my brain telling me another. I want Crolla to win, I really do but I rightly predicted that Barroso would knock Mitchell out, even though my heart wanted a Mitchell win. It’s the same this time round. In the past I’ve let my heart rule my head with the predictions and I got them wrong! I feel Crolla is really up against it, from the limited footage I’ve seen of Barroso he’s a southpaw who can bang. He surprised us all last time out in retiring Mitchell for good and I feel he can hurt Crolla if he lands clean. Crolla vs Barroso is an intriguing fight. It’s the South American by stoppage or the Brit on points. Barroso is very dangerous but can be outboxed. I fancy Crolla to come through some very sticky patches but to go on to win on points – Richard Hammel (@chadderscha), Boxing Britain writer

I don’t know much about Barroso but his record and the performance against Mitchell proves he can punch. Alvarez vs Khan

I’m going to put my neck on the line and say Khan gets off the canvas to get beat via split decision! – Gary Fortune

Another heart/head moment! I would love it if Khan won but it’s a tall ask jumping technically two weight divisions (although inside the middleweight limit, the contracted weight of 155lbs is only one pound over the Super-Welterweight/Light-Middleweight limit). For me it comes down to whether Canelo connects with one of his power punches. Khan is a brilliant boxer but loves to trade, and I can see him getting caught in one of those trades and getting stopped because of it. I’ll go Canelo in the 7th – Chris Waddams

Amir Khan and Canelo is a fight that has captured everyone’s attention, Khan proving he is willing to fight anyone by jumping up to 155lbs to take on one of the best p4p fighters on the planet. I really don’t know how Amir will cope up at this weight but if he’s carried his speed he can cause problems. Canelo has previously boxed at this weight and looks in tremendous shape. It’s a truly intriguing contest which I think Canelo will win by stoppage around rounds 7-9. It’s a fight I’m really looking forward to – I’m a big fan of both! – Tommy Lloyd Jnr

Canelo vs Khan is a brilliantly intriguing fight. Everything points to Canelo via stoppage or Khan on points. Massive respect to Khan for stepping up and taking the fight (his $13 million purse hay have helped sway him). It’s a fight he can win if he stays disciplined, stays off the ropes and stays away from Canelo’s left hook. Khan can outbox Canelo and that’s what I’m going for here. I reckon Khan will give Canelo problems in the first 4-5 rounds with his quick hand speed and his footwork, but Canelo will wear Khan down with his natural strength at the weight and stop Khan in the later rounds – Sion Yaxley
