Wythenshawe’s Kofi Yates begins the road to a Lightweight on MGM Manchester’s show on February 20th at Preston’s Guild Hall.

Wythenshawe’s Kofi Yates begins the road to a Lightweight on MGM Manchester’s show on February 20th at Preston’s Guild Hall.

The show which showcases Liam Conroy, Lyndon Newman and Michael Ramabeletsa in title action will be an opportunity for Yates to showcase the advantages of stepping down a weight division.
‘Casper’ recently avenged his only career defeat, outpointing Ben Wager for the Central Area Light Welterweight title in Barnsley. The now 12-1 (1KO) Yates now looks to kick on past Central Area level and is eager to do so in the Lightweight division; under the guidance of Anthony Farnell.

“It felt great avenging my only career loss to Ben Wager. Winning the Central Area title means a lot to me, its a traditional title. I’m glad i picked it up against Wager and got to avenge my loss in the process. It was good management from the MGM team to get the rematch at the right time for a title too”.

The Lightweight division is buzzing in Britain and Ireland at the moment with fellow Mancunian’s Anthony Crolla and Terry Flanagan currently holding versions of a World title. ‘Casper’ is looking to toss his name into the title picture at 135lb and is looking to set up some tasty domestic clashes in 2016.

“I honestly want to fight anyone at Lightweight. I want the likes of Kevin Hooper and Adrian Gonzalez. They are the fights I want right now but I don’t think those two want any part of me. I want to be involved in 50/50 fights and I want to win titles”.

“Hopefully this year I will pick up an international title of note or maybe a British title if the right people take a fight against me”.
The ambitious native of Wythenshawe will look to start his campaign for Lightweight honours on the MGM Manchester card at Preston’s Guild Hall. Yates has guaranteed fireworks,

“My fans can expect an explosive 8 rounds from me. I was hoping to fight for a title but I’m sure my management will deliver me one when the time is right. On 20th February you will see the best Kofi Yates to date at Lightweight. Don’t be surprised if I stop this lad I am fighting early”.

Kofi Yates is part of a bill which features Michael Ramabeletsa, Lyndon Newman, Liam Conroy in title action. Two time IBF Super Featherweight Champion Malcolm Klassen is set for a big fight that will be announced shortly. The card features highly rated prospects Nathan Brough, Chris Conwell, Ashley Peyton, Matthew Ryan, Jordan Thompson, Recce Macmillian, Ben Mulligan and Jason Sillett. Tickets are priced at £35 and VIP £55 and are available from all boxers on the show or via calling the Preston Guild Hall ticket line on 01722 804 440.
