Fights that need to happen in 2016 – number 9 and 8

9. Stephen Smith vs Liam Walsh

Stephen Smith is the mandatory challenger for the IBF Super-Featherweight title and Liam Walsh is ranked 4th with the IBF, so if “Swifty” wins the title it would be he that Walsh wants to face for his crack at the belt. An obvious stumbling block with this would be that Smith is with Matchroom and Walsh with BoxNation/Queensbury, but if he was to get himself into a mandatory position we could see these two well supported Super-Featherweights facing off by the end of the year. I personally couldn’t pick a winner right at this moment, but I know it would be a quality little dust up.

8. Ola Afolabi vs Tony Bellew

Ola Afolabi is the newly crowned IBO World Cruiserweight champion; Tony Bellew is the newly crowned EBU Cruiserweight champion. Both men pack a punch. This fight could ignite the domestic cruiserweight division. The stumbling block again would be the promoters but we can always hope to see two of the top 4 domestic Cruiserweights in the country fight for a (fringe) world title right?

Chris Waddams
I've been a boxing fan for as long as I can remember, going back to the fights between Benn/Eubank/Collins and probably even earlier if I think really hard! My favourite boxer growing up was Lennox Lewis, but when he retired it switched to Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe. Away from boxing I'm a season ticket holder at Tottenham Hotspur and I also write a Spurs blog (www.thfc1882.com)
